Hilbert schemes of points on affine space of dimension < 5

I will review the structure of Hilbert schemes of points on affine space of dimension d<5 and address the question “how to integrate 1 over these Hilbert schemes”. This relates to (1) work of Newton/Gauss for d=1, (2) Nekrasov’s partition function for d=2, (3) Donaldson-Thomas theory for d=3, (4) Nekrasov’s Magnificent Four for d=4. Towards the end of the talk, I will mention joint work in progress with Rennemo related to (4).
