Historically, the question of how far the properties of the subgroup lattice of a group G determine those of G has been extensively studied. Similar questions have been formulated for Lie algebras and restricted Lie algebras. In this talk we will try to introduce restricted Lie algebras in a compelling and natural way, highlighting their importance as a subclass of modular Lie algebras. After that, we will present some results on restricted Lie algebras whose lattice of restricted subalgebras satisfies certain prescribed properties, such as being distributive, modular and other related conditions.
