Abstract:
This talk will consist of two parts. In the first part, I will briefly introduce myself and my area of interest: continuous optimization and its applications to machine learning. In the second part, I will discuss
continuous optimization in a broader context, demonstrating its capability to yield results seemingly distant from optimization. This will be illustrated with several examples, including the approximated Carathéodory theorem and the computation of the permanent of a nonnegative matrix.
