Abstract: We establish the exponential stability of the kinetic Fokker-Planck equation describing the evolution of a crowd of particles in plasma physics. It is based on a modified entropy method for proving sharp exponential decay of non-symmetric, degenerate Fokker-Planck equations with linear drift. We extend this method and apply to the kinetic Fokker-Planck equations with a non-quadratic confinement potential. Our approach leads to new conditions on the confinement potential and provides a better exponential convergence rate than previously known results.
