Abstract: The classical PDE-framework of mathematical elasticity is ill-suited to describe discontinuities, such as cracks and dislocations. In order to resolve this shortcoming, Silling (2000) proposed a new nonlocal continuum theory, called Peridynamics, by replacing local constitutive relations featuring spacial differential operators with integrals over differences of displacement fields over a suitable positive interaction range. In this talk, we model the peridynamic energy of linear elasticity, briefly comment on the well-posedness of corresponding variational problem, and introduce the respective evolutionary problem.
