On stable Big Bang formation

According to the BKL conjecture, past dynamics in cosmological settings are usually dominated by metric oscillations. However, for some matter models or assuming symmetry, this can be surpressed, stabilizing the past singularity. In this talk, I intend to provide a (non-comprehensive) overview of recent results on and approaches to stable Big Bang formation in the Einstein scalar-field system. Additionally, I will discuss to what extent this picture changes upon adding additional matter types to the system, with a focus on my recent joint work with D. Fajman on the Einstein scalar-field Vlasov system near FLRW spacetimes.
