Abstract: Shear bands are narrow zones that appear in the high-speed shear  deformations of metals. The shear deformation and the heat  accumulation can give rise to the positive feedback instability. To
understand this non-linear phenomenon, we study 1-dimensional  thermo-visco-plastic flow, which describes a specimen in xy-plane shearing in a y-direction. The orderly nature of the instability is conceived by the comparable effects of the loss of hyperbolicity and the diffusive mechanism. Two-parameters focusing self-similar solutions are constructed with aid of techniques in dynamical systems.
