The Dynamics of Planetary-scale Fluid Flows

15.05.2023 14:00 - 19.05.2023 16:00

The programme will focus on two deep and versatile themes:
1)  global wind-driven ocean circulation, especially aspects improving the classical Ekman theory (e.g. large-scale curved-geometry approaches, studies of the effect of variable eddy viscosity on the deflection angle of the surface current with respect to the wind direction)
2) existence and stability results for Rossby-Harwitz waves and zonal jets in the atmosphere (of the Earth or of the giant planets in our solar system)

Mini-Course 1: May 8 - 12, 2023
Prof. Nathan Paldor (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) on
"Waves and wind-driven flows in the ocean"

Mini-Course 2: May 15 - 19, 2023
