In this talk, we demonstrate how a range of slope bounds for steady water waves can be derived directly using the elliptic maximum principle. Earlier proofs of such results are often lengthy and technically involved. In contrast, our approach relies solely on the Hopf lemma, offering a streamlined argument that provides new insight into the topic. This method not only simplifies existing proofs but also yields sharper bounds and several new results.
