Integer solutions to polynomial equations

13.03.2019 16:15 - 19:00

Timothy Browning (ISTA Maria Gugging)

Abstract:

The study of Diophantine equations is as ancient as mathematics itself. Over the years it has challenged humans to forge ever more advanced tools and to spot ever more surprising connections with other areas. In this talk I will describe some of the questions that have guided my recent research, from quantum computing to algebraic geometry and a few diversions along the way. The talk addresses a general audience with no specific knowledge in number theory.
