To address the growing societal and economic challenges, there is an increasing demand for universities to use their knowledge from research and teaching to fulfill their so-called "Third Mission" in society and economy. This implies taking responsibility, actively and consciously, for the society on whose behalf they are working.

Technology Transfer

Transferring the university’s technologies, expertise, and patents into commercial contexts is the core mission of our technology transfer program. At the Faculty of Mathematics, we focus in particular on mathematical models for optimizing complex systems.

Collaboration with African Mathematicians

We have set ourselves the goal of actively supporting research and development in Africa. To this end, we have established the Vienna Africa Mathematics Scholarships and organize workshops with African researchers.
