Knowledge Transfer
Projects
Together with our partner, future operations, (This website is available in German only.) our primary aim is to provide an insight, in as accessible a way as possible, into the standard mathematical and epidemiological methods used in modelling COVID-19. We present two standard tools used to better understand the COVID-19 pandemic: firstly, an SEIR compartmental model, and secondly, a method known as R-nowcasting.

Objectives of this transfer activity:
- To present career opportunities in the financial sector for mathematics graduates
- To present the quantitative and technical opportunities that mathematics offers in the field of finance
- Promoting dialogue between ‘practitioners’ (experts from banking, regulatory bodies, auditing, etc.) amongst themselves and with ‘academics’

Since 1977, the Didactics Commission of the Austrian Mathematical Society has been organising professional development for mathematics teachers at secondary schools (AHS and BHS). With a few exceptions, this professional development day has taken place at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna and has been organised by the Faculty, traditionally on the Friday after Easter. The aim is to provide regular professional development opportunities (covering both subject content and teaching methodology) for mathematics teachers in eastern Austria. The presentations given on the ÖMG Training Conference for Teachers (This website is available in German only.) are then published online in the course of the respective year.

Tomographic imaging techniques play an important role in a wide range of applications - from the smallest structures in biology and medicine to the vast distances in astronomy - as they often allow a three-dimensional image of an object to be generated in a non-destructive way. In order to make the best use of the measurement data in each application and to guarantee an accurate reconstruction of the properties of the object under consideration, we are modelling specific tomographic techniques, analysing the corresponding reconstruction problems and developing suitable algorithms for calculating the physical parameters.
