After his training at the École Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace in Toulouse, Emmanuel obtained his PhD under the supervision of Charles Newman at the Courant Institute of New York University in 2008, for which he obtained the Wilhem T. Magnus Memorial Prize. He continued as a Joseph Fels Ritt Assistant Professor at Columbia University. Since 2012, he has been an assistant professor at Sorbonne Université and researcher at the Collège de France.

Emmanuel has made outstanding contributions to a wide array of subjects, focusing on probability theory in connection with applications to population genetics and ecology. He is particularly known for his work on coalescent theory and on related random processes such as the Brownian web and branching random walks.

Starting February 2021, Emmanuel will join our faculty as Chair of Dynamical Systems in Biomathematics.
