Abstract:
This talk will discuss certain recent developments in our understanding of singularities and their stability properties for the energy critical wave maps model with target S2. Motivating these singular solution will also entail a discussion of the remarkably strong local well-posedness properties of this model, which set it apart from other 'less natural' models.
I will in particular discuss joint work with S. Miao and W. Schlag.
