Rational Catalan numbers in algebra and number theory

12.11.2024 13:15 - 14:45

Drew Armstrong (U Miami)

The classical Catalan numbers have innumerable interpretations. In this talk we will focus on a certain generalization, the rational Catalan numbers, depending on a pair of coprime integers (a,b). These numbers have two equivalent interpretations via lattice paths in an aXb rectangle, and via points of the root lattice of type A. We will discuss how rational Catalan numbers appear in various algebraic and number theoretic contexts. This talk will be substantially different from the talk I gave in the Discrete Mathematics seminar in September.
