Rare events in infinite ensemble dynamics

Abstract:
I will report on some ongoing work on stochastic properties of Poisson suspensions (PS) of
infinite measure preserving systems (e.g. maps with neutral periodic points, random walks,
Lorentz gas). The PS describes the simultaneous action of the dynamical system on countably
infinite ensembles of initial points chosen via a Poisson random measure. I will discuss this
construction and its basic properties, review some basic (and not so basic) results on
occurrence times of rare events in dynamics, and outline what we know about rare events in PS
(eg for Lorentz gas).
