Number systems and fractals

Abstract: Number systems are a way to represent elements of a space using strings of digits in relation to a base. They are often related to self-affine sets with a fractal structure. In this talk, we will give an overview of some classical examples, and then focus on the lesser-known case of rational bases and relate their study to p-adic numbers. We will pose some open questions regarding algebraic bases.
