In dynamical systems, a bifurcation occurs when a small smooth change in certain parameter values induces a qualitative (topological) change in the behaviour of the system.
In this lecture, I will give a short introduction to bifurcation theory, focussing on (local) bifurcations in continuous dynamical systems, with examples for saddle-node (fold), pitchfork and Hopf bifurcation.
