We begin with a model for the actin-cytoskeleton in a lamellipodium that incorporates descriptions of elastic connections between filament and substrate, and filament-to-filament interactions, along with other biologically motivated constraints. The derivation is based on the assumption that the width of the lamellipodium along the cell periphery is small compared to the circumference of the cell. After applying an appropriate scaling, we look at the situation when the length of the filaments is sufficiently small. We compare our calculations with the numerical results in [ÖSS08].
