We are excited to announce that Volker Branding has been awarded the Promotion Award of the City of Vienna in the area of mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology.
This distinction is awarded once a year by the City of Vienna to acknowledge outstanding accomplishments in these fields.
Volker finished his doctoral studies under the supervision of Christian Bär at the University of Potsdsam in 2012. After a first postdoctoral appointment at TU Wien, he joined the group of Michael Eichmair at our faculty in 2017.
Currently, he is leading the FWF project "Geometric variational problems from string theory".
Volker is a leading young expert in the fields of differential geometry and geometric analysis. His research focuses on harmonic maps and their generalizations appearing in geometry and physics.
