In this talk I will show how to construct aperiodic tilings by randomly combining different substitution rules on the same set of tiles. This can be done by organizing all the information through a Bratteli diagram, and I will mention how this can be paired with renormalization dynamics in order to give quantitative results for ergodicity and weak mixing. Some of what I'll mention comes from joint work with S. Schmieding.
