Solitary waves are crucial features of many nonlinear dispersive equations, from Korteweg-de Vries or Nonlinear Schrodinger to water waves or plasma physics. They are physically relevant and are expected to play a key role in the dynamics (soliton resolution conjecture). I will describe new results on their asymptotic stability for some relevant examples. The proofs rely on the so-called distorted Fourier transform and the analysis of nonlinear resonances. I believe this strategy is very promising, and that it can be applied to a very broad range of such problems.
