Abstract: I will talk about energy estimates and their role in the analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs). I will motivate their role by showing that, for example, for linear PDEs uniqueness and stability will follow if we have an estimate of how large the solution can be in terms of the initial data and the source function. Proving such estimates is therefore of great interest, and they are known in the literature as “energy estimates”or “growth estimates”.
